Carpet does not get dirty only on the surface
A vacuum removes what sits on top of the pile. What remains — mineral dust, traffic particles carried in on soles, drink residue, body oils on walkways — sinks into the weave and compacts there. The result: the carpet looks grey even right after vacuuming, and corridors show wear long before the rest of the floor.
Hot water extraction works exactly there. A solution is injected into the fibre to release bound soiling, then immediately extracted with the dirty water. The carpet is not soaked: it is cleaned and then emptied, which allows a quick return to service.
The fibre decides the method
A synthetic carpet tile on an office floor, a wool rug in a boardroom and a hand-knotted oriental rug do not take the same treatment. Wool shrinks and dulls with an overly alkaline product; some older rugs bleed their colours if the water is too hot or sits too long.
We identify the fibre and construction before choosing the method. On sensitive or valuable pieces we work more slowly, with less water, and we always test on a discreet corner. If a stain is irreversibly set — bleach, ink, rust on wool — we say so before the work, not after.

Carpet cleaning — frequently asked questions
How long does the carpet take to dry?
With proper extraction and forced ventilation, usually 4 to 8 hours depending on pile thickness and room ventilation. That is why we prefer to work at the end of the day or at the weekend: the floor is usable when you return. A carpet that takes two days to dry was over-wetted and under-extracted.
Do all stains come out?
No, and we would rather say so beforehand. Coffee or drink stains treated within days usually come out well. Bleach discolouration, set ink or rust marks on wool have destroyed or altered the fibre: cleaning does not undo damage. We identify those cases at the quotation stage.
Does hot water extraction damage the carpet?
Done properly, no: it is gentler than rotary shampooing, which works the fibre mechanically. The risk comes from excess water that is poorly extracted, which can cause shrinkage on some wools or odours if the underlay stays damp. That is a matter of dosing and equipment, not of method.
Is the anti-dust-mite treatment actually useful?
It reduces the mite population in the fibre for several months, which genuinely matters in a nursery, a medical practice or for an allergy sufferer. It does not make the carpet permanently inert and does not replace regular vacuuming. We do not sell it as a medical solution.
Do you work on oriental rugs?
Yes, with a different method: less water, controlled temperature, colour-fastness test first. Hand-knotted rugs sometimes bleed, especially older, vegetable-dyed pieces. If the test shows a risk we tell you rather than taking that risk on your behalf.
How often should office carpet be cleaned?
Once a year is enough on a moderately used floor; twice if you have a direct street entrance, a catering point or heavy visitor flow. Corridors and entrances can be redone separately between full passes — more effective and cheaper than redoing everything.
